Home Battery Storage Melbourne & Victoria

A home battery lets your household store the solar energy you generate during the day and use it at night — cutting your reliance on the grid, lowering your power bills, and keeping the lights on when the street goes dark. Huracan Energy designs and installs residential battery systems across Melbourne and Victoria, fully installed by a local team working with SAA-accredited electricians. You deal directly with the people doing the work — no call centres, no overseas support lines.

How a home battery works for your household

Your solar panels generate the most power in the middle of the day — often more than your home is using at the time. Without a battery, that surplus is exported to the grid for a small feed-in tariff. With a battery, you store it instead and put it to work in three ways:

  • Powering your home at night, when your panels aren't producing and grid electricity is usually most expensive.
  • Avoiding peak-time tariffs, by drawing from the battery rather than the grid during the costliest hours.
  • Keeping you running through blackouts, with optional backup protection (more below).

The result is a home that leans on the grid far less — and for many Victorian households facing rising network charges and more frequent outages, far more predictably.

The battery we install: Dyness Powerbox G2

Our residential systems are built around the Dyness Powerbox G2, a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery engineered for daily cycling in Australian conditions. We choose LiFePO4 for home storage because it runs cooler, handles daily charge-and-discharge cycles well, and has a strong safety record compared with other lithium chemistries.

The 2026 Cheaper Home Batteries rebate

The Australian Government's Cheaper Home Batteries Program is active in 2026 and reduces the upfront cost of home battery storage. There's one key condition: it requires existing solar panels, or a new solar system installed at the same time as the battery.

If you already have solar — or you're adding solar and a battery together — we factor the applicable rebate directly into your quote. No chasing forms, no separate claim to lodge. Read our full guide to the 2026 battery rebate for how it works and what changed.

Stay powered when the grid goes down

Grid outages are increasingly common across Victoria's distribution networks. Optional blackout protection keeps your home running through an outage — lights, fridges, security, and other essential circuits — switching over automatically when the grid drops. When the street goes dark, your power stays on.

Works with your existing solar

Already have solar? In most cases your existing inverter is fully compatible and no replacement is required. We integrate with all leading inverter brands — including GoodWe, Fronius, Sungrow, SMA, SolarEdge, Enphase, Solis, Huawei, Deye, Victron and Solinteg. Not sure what you've got? Call us and we'll confirm compatibility before you commit to anything.

Fully installed by a local Victorian team

Every job is handled end to end by our Melbourne-based team working with SAA-accredited electricians: site assessment, full installation, grid-connection paperwork, and commissioning. We're a registered Victorian electrical contractor (REC-37166) and a NETCC Approved Seller, and every system meets Australian Standard AS/NZS 5139 — safe, compliant, and rebate-eligible from day one.

You won't be passed between ticketing systems. You deal directly with Rhys and the team, before and after install day.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need solar panels to get a home battery?

To qualify for the 2026 Cheaper Home Batteries rebate, yes — you need existing solar or a new solar system installed alongside the battery. A battery can be installed without solar, but it won't be rebate-eligible and the economics are usually weaker, so we'll talk you through what makes sense for your situation.

How big a battery do I need?

It depends on your daily energy use, your solar size, and whether you're after everyday bill savings or closer to full grid independence. We size the system to your actual usage rather than selling a fixed package — get a quote and we'll recommend a capacity.

Will a battery keep my whole house running in a blackout?

With optional blackout protection, your battery can back up essential circuits automatically during an outage. Whether that covers your whole home or selected circuits depends on your system size and load — we design it around what matters most to you.
